Busy Birding Weekend! May 16 & 17

May 16 – Field Trip: Cheyenne Big Day Bird Count with Cheyenne Audubon

Cheyenne Audubon invites the public, birders of every level and non-birders, for a free birdwatching field trip around Lions Park May 16, for the Cheyenne Big Day Bird Count. The bird walk begins at 8 a.m. in the parking lot between the Children’s Village and the picnic shelter. If arriving after 8 a.m., please call Mark, 307-287-4953, for a location update.

After an hour or two, participants can continue with the group to the Wyoming Hereford Ranch and the High Plains Arboretum. Be sure to bring water and lunch and dress for the weather. The entire route, driving and walking, may take until 3 p.m., though participants can leave at any time. Independent bird sightings for the day can be recorded through eBird or shared at the tally party.

The tally party will be held at 8 p.m. at Perkins restaurant, 1730 Dell Range. Contact Barb by text or call, 307-287-4952, if planning to attend.

May 17 – Cheyenne Audubon Greenway cleanup

Volunteers are welcome to join Cheyenne Audubon members cleaning up a section of the Cheyenne Greenway May 17. Meet at 10 a.m. at the parking lot next to the corner of Van Buren Avenue and Laramie Street. Work will proceed north along Dry Creek for about an hour.

Trash bags and light-weight gloves will be provided. Participants should wear sturdy footwear, preferably waterproof, and heavy gloves and bring rakes and hoes, if available, for fishing trash out of the creek.
